Opening the cabin
Notes:
Bring queen size sheets, pillowcases, towels.
The big key is for the deadbolt; the small key is for the electric
box.
There's wood behind the cabin and newspapers in the armoire.
The cabinet above the kitchen sink opens; there's a hidden drawer
on the right side/front of the sink; the trash can under the
sink doubles as a bucket; the broom/mop are in the (bedroom)
hot water heater closet.
The tv stand opens on the right to reveal videos.
The futon makes into a queen bed or recliner.
 |
1. Unlock the cabin
and turn on the hot water faucet. (Flashlight above the
fireplace, if you need it.) |
 |
Water main and drain at base
of driveway. |
 |
2. Turn on the water
at the street - turn the smaller (bleeder) valve clockwise to
close it and open the larger (main) valve, allowing water to
flow to the house. |
 |
3. Turn on the water
at the house, right of the front door. (Open the water valve
so it's parallel to the pipe.) |
 |
4. Make sure that water comes out
of the hot water faucet before turning on the electricity
to the water heater. If you turn on the electricity to the
water heater before turning on the water, you'll burn out the
heating element in the hot water heater!
[OPTIONAL, if the house was winterized
when last used, first open the water heater inlet and outlet
valves before turning on the electricity to the hot water
heater (double breaker). The water heater is in the closet in
the bedroom.].
|
 |
5. Turn on the electricity to the
house; the electric box is on the left side of the building as
you face the house. Use caution - shock danger!
Make sure the second double breakers (to
hot water heater) is in the off position before turning the main
(top breaker) on.
When there's water coming from the hot
water faucet, turn on the the second double breakers.
The other breaders can be on at any time.
|
6. Plug in the refrigerator.
Closing the cabin
Unplug the refrigerator, put thick newspaper
on the metal shelf (for freezer melt) and to prop open the refrigerator
door to prevent mildew.
Close all the windows, curtains, and shutters
Empty all the trash cans (replace with
fresh can liners); take the trash/garbage with you.
Write in the memory book (on the living
room bookcase)
Turn off the electricity
Turn off the water at the house and the
street, open the bleeder valve.
Lock the door.
