Opening the cabin

Notes:
Bring queen size sheets, pillowcases, towels.
The big key is for the deadbolt; the small key is for the electric box.
There's wood behind the cabin and newspapers in the armoire.
The cabinet above the kitchen sink opens; there's a hidden drawer on the right side/front of the sink; the trash can under the sink doubles as a bucket; the broom/mop are in the (bedroom) hot water heater closet.
The tv stand opens on the right to reveal videos.
The futon makes into a queen bed or recliner.

1. Unlock the cabin and turn on the hot water faucet in the kitchen.  (There's a flashlight above the fireplace.)

   2.  Open the water heater inlet and outlet valves. (The water heater is in the closet in the bedroom.)
   3. Turn on the water at the street - turn the smaller (bleeder) valve clockwise to close it and open the larger (main) valve, allowing water to flow to the house.
Main valves are located at the base of the driveway under the round cover, remove the insulation to access the valves.
Turn the smaller (bleeder) valve clockwise to close it and open the larger (main) valve, allowing water to flow to the house. Replace the bags of insulation.
   4. Turn on the water at the house, right of the front door. (Open the water valve so it's parallel to the pipe.)   Leave the water running slowly in the bathroom and the kitchen for your entire visit, or the water could freeze in the pipes.
   5. Make sure that water comes out of the hot water faucet before turning on the electricity to the water heater. If you turn on the electricity to the water heater before turning on the water, you'll burn out the heating element in the hot water heater!

   6. Turn on the electricity to the house; the electric box is on the left side of the building as you face the house. Use caution - shock danger!

Make sure the middle breakers (to hot water heater) are in the off position before turning the main (top breaker) on.  When there's water coming from the hot water faucet, turn on the other breakers.

 7.  Plug in the refrigerator.

Closing the cabin

1.  Drain the water heater:   turn off the electricity to the hot water heater (turn off both double breakers; the other is to the stove).  Donít touch anything else - shock danger!

2. Close the water heater inlet and outlet valves.

3. Attach the hose to the water heater, and put the hose out the front door to drain; --prop open the pressure relief valve--open the valve to the hose bib.  The water heater takes about 45 minutes to drain.

4.  Drain the pipes:  in the driveway, turn the big valve clockwise (off); turn the small valve counterclockwise

5. Under the house, open two drains (down and horizontal); access is via a door on the back side of the house.

6. By the house, open the hose faucet; close the house main lever (put in the down position)

7. Open all the faucets in the house (then close when water stops draining)

8. Close the hose faucet

9. Flush the toilet to empty the tank, then use plunger to force the water out of the toilet, leaving a little.

10. Add antifreeze to the toilet (both bowl and tank), the bathroom sink, the kitchen sink, the shower trap (about 2oz+ each) (antifreeze bottle leaves stain)

12. Go back under the house, and close the two drains.

11. Go back to the electric box, and turn everything else off.
