Online help on your computer
- Try the online help for your compter. In finder or you application press the help key.
- Apple Support
Memory
- Turn off virtual memory from your control panel. It has been the cause of crashes in graphics programs.
- Could you have too many programs running, try quitting some of them. Running at the upper limits can take you over the brink if you get an email in the background or have sharing on.
Fonts
- Turn OFF fonts you do not need.
- Test the fonts with ATM Deluxe. Passing the test does not mean the font is OK, but it's not very bad.
- Turn OFF font substitution.
- Avoid TrueType Fonts. Imagesetters do not like them.
Preferences
- If you have crashes in a program repeatedly, it could be a corrupted preference. Throw out the associated preference, make note of the settings you need to keep first so you can reset them.
- Preference files are located in the program folder or the system preference folder.
Corrupted File
- Try using a different file and reproduce the problem, if it went away, it could have been a corrupted file.
- Save As another file can repair the problem in the new file.
- Copy and Paste to a new file can repair a corrupted file (Note: it can also carry the problem to the new file).
- Some files can be corrupted by an imported object. Resaving and reimporting can solve the problem
Do it a different way
- Find a repeatable pattern, if you can recreate the problem. Sometimes the way you do something will cause you to crash, find another way to do the same thing.
Reboot
- Try rebooting your computer. Rebooting can fix many problems. If a warm reboot does not work try a cold reboot, that is shutting it down, cut off power wait a few minutes, power up and start it up again.
