Sierra Club Camera Committee (Revised 11-10-05)
http://www.allan-der.com/oceano/gallery/ I have just added a docent lead hike to Point San Luis Lighthouse with Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers. Our trip is centered around Pismo Beach, located about 188 miles (about 3.5 hours) north of Los Angeles on US 101. Plan to drive up Friday; we will meet on Saturday at 8:00 AM near the dunes. Please double check the equipment list, there are some mandatory items you need to bring. We have placed a hold on a block of rooms at the Sandcastle Inn. Campers see below. Please call to reserve your room by 10/31/05 Rooms for 11/11 and 11/12 are under the name of "Allan Der" (or mention Judy Molle or the Sierra Club). Room rate is $99/night plus taxes. Sandcastle Inn, Tel. (805) 773-2422 Directions to the Sandcastle Inn: From the south, from Hwy 101, take Price Street exit, head west & turn left on Stimson. From the north, exit Price Street to Dolliver (Hwy 1), turn right on Stimson. The Sandcastle Inn is ocean front at 100 Stimson Avenue. Amenities: oceanfront inn five miles from the Avila Golf Course and Pismo Beach Outlet Center; Hearst Castle is 60 miles away. The hotel provides complimentary wireless Internet access throughout plus a glass-enclosed spa tub overlooking the ocean. Complimentary breakfast, free self-parking, standard rooms with one king bed or two queen beds include hair dryers, irons/ironing boards, and coffee/tea makers. Itinerary (subject to change) Friday Travel to area and check into Sandcastle Inn. Saturday We will meet 8:00 AM. Bring food for lunch and full tank of gas. Directions to meeting place: From The Sandcastle Inn or North Beach campground, head south on Highway 1, past the Grover Beach Amtrak Station. Continue approximately 2 miles to 22nd Street and park. Look for the leaders Jeep Cherokees, one silver and the other red. From the meeting point, we will caravan or carpool a short distance to a parking lot at the base of the dunes. Oceano Dunes (3 hrs) Los Osos Oaks State Reserve (1+ hrs.), a 90-acre grove of dwarfed, 800-year-old coast live oaks. We will have lunch and explorer the oaks. Montaña De Oro (2 hrs.) One of the largest state parks in California, it has rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains, streams, canyons, and hills. It has a planted eucalyptus forest that we may stop and shoot on the way. Day use fee*. Dinner, Italian
